I'm turning my keyboard over to Beachwalk Press author, Tara Chevrestt, as she tells us a bit about her new book, Afterburn. Welcome, Tara!
Do Sexual Harassment and Racism Belong in Fiction?

Sexual
harassment and racism...pretty taboo topics, right? That's why Sonia
Hightower chose to tackle them. Sonia, my alter ego, tends to take on
the racier, the more taboo. Most readers nowadays want a fluffy romance
with minor complications and a HEA. Sonia wrinkles her
nose at that-though she did agree to a HEA this time.
She first made her debut with Sinful Urges.
Sinful Urges is an erotic noir. It's not just a good sexual romp, but
also a tale that shows readers the turmoil and the repercussions of
adultery. It makes the reader think and possibly even question their
faith...just a little bit.
Sonia is back now with Afterburn. Having been an aircraft mechanic for eleven years, I was dying to write about a woman grease monkey. Nobody else is!
And
let me tell you something...it's ugly, but it's there. Sexual
harassment happens to women in male dominated professions on an everyday basis. So, it's an issue
in Afterburn. It's a fact of life and fiction isn't real if it doesn't portray real life.
Racism:
Another ugly, but sadly, real life issue. Even in 2012, it's there. I'm
sure many of you have worked side by side with someone for
years...never thought of the person as a racist and suddenly one day you
get to talking about some married couple who happen to be
interracial...and they say those horrible, offensive words, "I'd never
let my daughter marry a...."
That moment you realize you've been working with a bigot? Yea.
So, Afterburn isn't a piece of fluff. I lay it out there. It's life.
I have to commend you for tackling such big topics. You've definitely intrigued me. I just added a couple to my currently tipping over TBR Pile. So many book, so little time! Thanks for being with me today, Tara.

A little bit about Tara:
Sonia
Hightower is the sexier side of author Tara Chevrestt. Sonia claims she
was here first, but Tara's belief is that Sonia was created to protect
the readers of her YA novels from stumbling onto some of her sexier
writings. After all, there are some things a fifteen year old should not
read…
Past writings by Tara include Dog Tails: Three Humorous Short Stories for Dog Lovers, A Facebook Affair, and Ride for Rights. When We
Meet Again, and Operation: Enduring Santa will be coming in 2012. Sonia, who has recently been allowed to express her writing tendencies, has penned Sinful Urges and Afterburn.
